A Local’s Guide to Scarywood Haunted Nights 2026
October in North Idaho means crisp evenings, changing leaves, pumpkin patches and one of the region’s most anticipated Halloween traditions: Scarywood Haunted Nights.
Each fall, Silverwood Theme Park in Athol trades its family-friendly summer atmosphere for fog, monsters, haunted attractions and thrill rides after dark. For locals, Scarywood has become one of those events that signals fall has officially arrived in North Idaho.
Whether you recently moved to the area, are visiting North Idaho in October or have lived here for years but haven’t made the trip, here’s what to know about Scarywood Haunted Nights 2026.
When Is Scarywood Open in 2026?
Scarywood’s 2026 season runs on select nights from October 2 through October 30. The event begins at 7 p.m., with closing times varying by date. Friday and Saturday events generally run until midnight, while several Thursday and Sunday nights end at 11 p.m.
One detail worth knowing before making Halloween plans: Scarywood is closed on October 31 in 2026.
Because the schedule varies throughout October, check the official Scarywood Haunted Nights calendar before heading out.
What to Expect at Scarywood Haunted Nights 2026
This isn’t simply Silverwood with Halloween decorations.
Once darkness falls, the park transforms into a full haunted experience with roaming characters, scare zones and five walk-through haunted attractions. For 2026, those attractions include Blood Bayou, Chuckle’s 3D Sideshow, Pharaoh’s Curse, The Swine: Bigger and Badder, and the all-new Nightmares maze.
There are also 10 scare zones scattered throughout the park, so getting from one attraction to another can become part of the experience.
Then there are the rides.
Many of Silverwood’s signature attractions continue operating after dark during Scarywood, adding an entirely different atmosphere to rides you may already know from summer. Timber Terror even runs backwards during the event.
Between the rides, haunted mazes and scare zones, it’s worth arriving early rather than assuming you’ll see everything in an hour or two.
Buying Scarywood Tickets
This is one part of your visit you don’t want to leave until you pull into the parking lot.
Scarywood tickets are sold online only and are not available for purchase at the gate. Tickets are also limited and can sell out.
Pricing varies depending on the night you attend. Scarywood currently offers an $8 discount when tickets are purchased at least one day before your chosen date, making planning ahead worthwhile for both availability and price.
Parking is an additional $10 per vehicle.
Scarywood admission is separate from a regular Silverwood season pass, although special passholder promotions may be available on designated dates.
A Few Local Tips Before You Go
North Idaho October nights can get chilly quickly, especially when you’re outside for several hours. Dress in layers and prepare for the weather. Scarywood operates in the rain, so a questionable forecast doesn’t necessarily mean the event is canceled.
Leave the Halloween costume at home, too. Guests aren’t permitted to wear costumes, costume makeup, masks or clothing that could make them appear to be part of the Scarywood cast.
Once you’re inside, there is no re-entry. Make sure you’ve brought what you need before passing through the gate.
And if you’re considering bringing younger kids, know what you’re signing up for. Scarywood says the event is not recommended for children 12 and under. The atmosphere is intentionally intense, with darkness, loud noises, jump scares and roaming performers throughout the park.
Don’t Miss Heroes Weekend
One 2026 date is especially noteworthy for North Idaho’s military and first responder community.
Scarywood’s final weekend includes its Heroes Weekend promotion. On October 29 and 30, firefighters, active-duty military members, veterans, police and EMS personnel can receive free admission by showing qualifying identification at the front gate.
Check Scarywood’s current promotion details before attending to confirm requirements.
Make a North Idaho Fall Night of It
Part of Scarywood’s appeal is its location. Athol sits between the Coeur d’Alene and Sandpoint areas, making the event an easy fall outing for residents throughout much of North Idaho.
If you’re coming from out of town, October is also a great time to experience a different side of the region. Summer crowds have eased, temperatures are cooler and the forests are transitioning toward winter.
It’s the kind of season that helps explain why living in North Idaho isn’t just about summers on the lake. Every part of the year brings its own traditions, recreation and community events.
Scarywood Is Part of the North Idaho Experience
The lakes and mountains may get most of the attention when people first discover North Idaho, but it’s often traditions like Scarywood that make living here memorable.
You get summer days on Lake Coeur d’Alene, fall nights at Scarywood, snowy winters in the mountains and an outdoor lifestyle that changes with every season.
If you’re considering making North Idaho home, experiencing the area outside peak summer can tell you a lot about what everyday life here is actually like.
